Australia Must Act to Get Patel
PORTLAND, OR 2005-06-21 (Oregon Considered) - As an Australian commission continues to look into 87 deaths linked to Dr. Jayant Patel, his lawyer say there is "no way in the world" the doctor will appear before the panel. Stephen Houze confirmed Tuesday that his client is in the U.S., but declined to speak on tape or day whether Patel was still in Oregon.
"Oregon Considered" host Allison Frost discussed the case with Douglas McNabb, a criminal defense lawyer who specializes in international cases and has expertise in extradition matters. McNabb says nothing is likely to happen to Patel until Australia takes action.
